Summary

This record player means business, and it comes at a price that just about anyone can afford. With a really exciting selection of features that will keep you on your toes, it makes for a glorious balance of retro and modern features that will send you back to a happier, and more peaceful place.

Presenting the Ion Audio Max

The Ion Audio Max is a fantastic choice to make if you are searching for a new record player that is excellent in terms of sound quality and overall durability.

It is a robust little creation that will last for ages, and offers a whole host of extra features that I can’t wait to show you below. Truly, it really does bring the old and new together and transform them into something incredible.

Of course, this record player is not going to be the right choice for everyone. It is a little heavy, and this means that it is not as portable as some other models of record player.

It also has a lot of modern features, and if you are looking for something simpler and more standard, it might be an idea to check out our comparison models at the end of this review.

Features and Benefits

Power and Design

The thing I love most about the Ion Audio Max is the fact that it has such a classic retro turntable design. With a gorgeous wood finish, it really does send you back, but it also has that modern touch that makes it so worthwhile.

However, if wood isn’t your thing, there is also a sleek black option that you can pick up instead. Both versions come with a handy dust cover to protect the implements as well as keep it looking as clean as possible.

The controls are located on the top of the record player and clearly labelled, with the volume being close to the rest of the main controls.

This makes them pretty easy to access and understand – providing you with a relaxed and stress-free experience when you want to make alterations and adjustments.

The ceramic cartridge is diamond tipped, and this makes it ideal for connecting up to an amp or HIFI speakers; something you seriously should be considering if you want to play music for large groups of people.

The arm is also adjustable and nicely balanced, with a good weight that ensures a gentle trail along your vinyl records. The belt driven mechanism ensures smooth playback, and one that is kind to you discs while also providing wonderful sound.

It also has the ability to play three speeds as well as three different sizes of disc – meaning that none of your records will have to collect dust again. For your reference, here are the speeds and sizes that the Ion Audio Max is able to play:

Speeds: 33 1/3, 45, 78
Sizes: 7in, 10in, 12in

Extra Tech Additions

This record player also incorporates USB conversion, and even comes with the cable you need in order to start the process. Compatible with both PC and MAC, you don’t need to worry about it not working with your operating system, and the provided software is easy to use.

The process is both fast and smooth, but you may need to do some manual editing to ensure that the tracks don’t end early and that they are all in order.

You can even hook your smartphone up to the Ion Audio Max, allowing you to stream all of the music that has been stored on it through the built-in speakers. That way, you always have a solid mix of music to play for yourself and others.

The speakers that are built into the record player have excellent sound quality, but no bass, and so there is also the option to plug in some external ones as well.

One thing many people have wanted over the years is a record player that also lets you use headphones, and this one truly delivers. The headphone jack allows for private listening whenever you want, which is perfect for shared houses or when you want some time to yourself.

Weight and Transportation

The Ion Audio Max weighs in at 5kg, making it heavier than most of the other record players on the market. This might be a little disappointing if you were searching for a portable model, but it still does a fantastic job all the same.

Despite it being a little heavier than many other record players out there, it is still gentle on your furniture – ensuring that no scratches or dents are left behind when you settle it into its new home.

How Does It Compare?

Here are some other, similar, models of record player for you to consider, just in case you want to look at other options before you commit to the Ion Audio Max.

Crosley Record Player Review 1

Sporting a really stylish briefcase design, this Crosley record player encapsulates portability and quality in one neat little package.

With easy to access controls and loads of flexibility, it also comes at a very reasonable price.

GPO Memphis Retro Record Player Turntable

This record player features a really individual design, as you will find it hidden within a false stereo – offering a look that friends and family are sure to love, as well as a piece of kit that gets full protection from dust and debris.

It plays three speeds so that you can listen to all of your records, and there is a USB port that allows for quick and easy digital file conversion.

Steepletone SMC386 Compact BT

This big and beautiful beast has so much inside it that you won’t believe what it can offer. With loads of modern tech and functions, it even lets you hook your phone and computer up for streaming and file conversion.

To Conclude

We hope that you have found this Ion record player review helpful, and that all of the information we have provided has given you a good idea as to whether or not this is going to be the right record player for you.

There is so much to love when you look at this model, from the simple yet stylish design to the wonderful additional features that bring the past in synch with the modern world.

Some of the best additions are the ability to hook up your mobile phone, as well as the file conversion so that you can listen to your records anywhere.

While this can require some manual intervention, it is so worth it, and having your tunes with you everywhere makes up for the fact this isn’t a portable model.

With the ability to plug your headphones in for private listening included, there isn’t much going against this little masterpiece.
